Runes

Runes are socketable items, which are dropped from loot in the Sanctuary gamemode. There are many different kinds of runes, some of which can only be used in higher difficulties. Runes can be added to socketed Sanctuary weapons by crafting the weapon and rune together, which will add affixes. There are 20 different runes.

Runes can also make runewords on pure weapons. Runewords are created by adding runes to pure weapons in the correct order. At the moment, there are 12 runewords:

• Melee Weapons
  • Downfall: Yor - Fa
  • Strength: Fa - Bol
  • Toxin: Lam - Haa
  • Diligence: Bol - Xer (Wrench only)
  • Steel: Xer - Bol - Haa
  • Brawn: Haa - Fa - Xer

• Pistols
  • Chill: Yor - Ie
  • Purity: Ti - Lam - Yor

• SMGs and Rifles
  • Smoke: Ti - Xer
  • Honor: Bol - Haa - Fa - Ie

• Shotguns
  • Glory: Ie - Fa
