Title: Nivendo's Slope Suggestions
Post by: Nivendo on November 29, 2012, 12:31:26 AM
Green text means it is supported by a dev(s) or admin(s), and may be implemented in the near future. Yellow text means that the suggestion has decent backing, but not as much as a suggestion with green text. Admin replies are in black and are posted by admins directly.

- Remove Skill
I know this may come as a shock to you, but Skill is based primarily about taking credit for other people running in front of you. This is probably why I have had many of the records on Skill in the past (Jokes). Instead of removing Skill and replacing it with another mind-numbing map, I suggest we simply bring back Coop. I've never played Coop, but from what I've heard, it is a much better map than skill and makes your team work as a whole. This would be much better than the credit-stealing map that is Skill. If there is any chance of this happening, that is great. If not, Skill still needs an edit and should be less of a luck-fest and asshole-friendly map than what it is now.

Admin Reply:
Read below. Coop was removed for a reason and right now Skill is staying.

-Revamp Grassy
Grassy is one of those maps that is just useless to go to. For being one of the hardest maps, it has an awful payout. It has almost no rest-stops or gift spots that are accessible. I have had an entire 25-round map rotation without getting a single dollar or gift. It needs a sensible revamp for cash and difficulty.

Admin Reply:
We are always willing to add maps, but right now we are lacking map creators. If anyone feels like they wish to create a map for us then we will be more happy to look at it. You will improve the experience you have while on the server, and you may also receive a mappers medal!

-Recent Suggestions-
-Side Objectives
Side objectives would be nice. Not only for Slope, but possibly for Smash as well. These would be player-specific "side quests" that the player has the option to complete for an extra item or cash. It would include reaching a preset location, hitting a specific type of prop, or dying in a specific way (fall damage, for example). A nice substitute for people who don't have the skill or tools necessary for reaching gifts all the time.

Admin Reply:
This sounds very similar to the halloween event which we ran and is definitely something we will consider in the future.

-Slope Tools
Roll Boots : Enables the user to roll to the side or backwards very quickly. Good for evasive action. Requires minor recuperation time to compensate for the quick movement.

Jump Boots : Enables the user to jump straight into the air, with very little (to no) forward movement. Good for jumping over large props. Minor recoil damage.

Walking Stick : Enables the user to swat away some small props such as cans and boots. Note that this will require skill and timing.

-Side-Records
In addition to having records for fastest time finishing a map, we should have most consecutive times finishing, most times finishing a map, etc.

-Mini-Games
Although Slope is based around finishing with the quickest time, side missions such as hit X amount of targets (Green-colored poles, for example) or survive the round with less than 50hp would be fun. These missions would be randomized each run through the map, and award extra cash or random items upon completion.

-Slope Medals
Similar to how medals were awarded for the Smash tournament, Slope medals are awarded for getting first place for a specific map, or second, third, etc. They would be awarded whenever records are reset or for a weekly/monthly record board.

Admin Reply:
We are planning a slope tournament to take place soon, medals would only be awarded from that type of activity.

-Weekly/Daily Records
So, it's a little disheartening when you miss that #1 record by just a few miliseconds. A weekly and daily record board would be a fun little attachment to help give you a pat on the back for the accomplishment of that low of a time.

-Personal Records
I know that this might take up a bit of space for the server to create a personal record for everyone, but it's not a bad idea. A personal record would help you improve and see how far you've come, or how you need to adjust your route to fit the map.

-Ghost Time (Goes with Personal Record)
Not sure how this would be possible, but as with every racing game, there is generally a ghost racer for your best personal record. It'd be cool to see how you did it before, and how you need to adjust.

-Old Suggestions-
-Slope Shields
Works as a defensive or utility item on Slope. Much like dexterity rings or force staffs, it helps the player instead of hurting others like mines. They only block props directly in front of you. The only exception for any of these shields is the holy prop.

Slope shields would include:
Riot Shield : Blocks 1 small prop per round (Stops being effective after Fridge). Breaks after use. (For that round)

Bullet-Proof Shield : Blocks 1 speedy prop per round. For those people that hate speed racer cans. Breaks after use. (For that round)

Stone Shield : Breaks 1 prop of ANY kind. Upon being hit, the shield breaks and you are left in a state of awe, crouching and unable to move for 3 seconds. Breaks after use. (For that round)

-Holy Prop Variations
Cash Bag (Gives X amount of cash when struck) [~1/250 Chance To Spawn]

"Grab" Bag (Gives random item when struck, often better than a gift) [~1/200 Chance To Spawn]

-Deteriorating Map
Much like some platformers do, a deteriorating map would allow for a push towards finishing quickly. After 30 seconds, the map begins creating an entity that slowly moves up the map, killing any who touch it. A wall of flame, or darkness would be appropriate for the theme. After 2 minutes, the darkness/flame wall completely consumes the map, killing anyone on it who has not finished the map. This is also extremely effective at preventing spawn-campers.

-On-Use Items
As the title suggests, on-use items would be items that effect the game on use. An on-use item could be anything from making the round only spawn cans or trains, to forcing the spawn of a holy prop.

Admin Reply:
I 100% support this, but it would be nice if we could have something which requires a community effort to make it happen as it effects everyone ingame.

-Added/Confirmed Suggestions-
-Nothing.

I like every single suggestion made. I wish the game had more things than just run to the top of the hill and dodge props. With added things like helicopters and bombs, it would make it more interesting. Although I do have a suggestion myself that I would like to add. I am pretty new to the server, and am enjoying it so far. But a big problem is people just running around the spawn area and not going, just to make people angry. The floor should drop out after like 10-20 seconds.

I agree with everything but the on use items. That's a little too powerful.

I want mines to use on Slope, I think they'd be fun, assuming we can make them avoidable.

You can, just don't run in to them and you'll be fine ;) I think they'd have to be disallowed on some parts of the map though - the parts where avoiding them would be impossible. I also think some mines wouldn't be useable, like repulsion mines.

-Deteriating Map
Much like some platformers do, a deteriating map would allow for a push towards finishing quickly. After 30 seconds, the map begins creating an entity that slowly moves up the map, killing any who touch it. A wall of flame, or darkness would be appropriate for the theme. After 2 minutes, the darkness/flame wall completely consumes the map, killing anyone on it who has not finished the map.
I like the deteoriating map, some players who are slow or like to troll (which gets them banned), but solves the problem. The # of minutes for the entirely engulfed map should be determined by the difficulty of the map. E.G. Sky - 2 Minutes, Reverse - 2-3 Minutes.

This post hasn't been getting any attention at all. Where is everyone?

I like the idea of weekly records and personal records. Was also thinking a while ago of stats for each map on the website.

Any of these would make the game have more variation and intrest for players who have completed the map enough times to lack challenge

I like most of these, with the exception of removing skill. If you are, well, skilled at slope, you should be rewarded with an equal amount of cash, I think.

These are really nice suggestions, but most of them are connected somehow to nonSENSE's addon and I'm not familiar with it, and he likes to work it on himself (Understandable). nonSENSE is currently busy with university and wont be working until after a few months, but like usually when nonSENSE starts working he adds great content, and I'm sure he will look at those suggestions. But I will take a look at the records and all that when I can.

About the skill map, my opinion is they make a v3 version, that doesnt have a slow part, and is replaced by like a jump stage (Similar to the one in the middle of reverse.)And if you are going to remove skill, you might as well remove grassy. Grassy, in my opinion, makes the server look bad. Whoever made the map probably put about 15minutes of effort towards it. It is extremely difficult, and isn't all that nice to look at either.

About the helicopter round, I saw this on a css minigame, it was a smash type map, but when there was 2 minutes left in the round, there would be some random mode, where you were ice skating with scouts and knives, or doing an obstacle course. This map also included a factor where if you made it into the center of the hole where the blocks come out, you were able to control a helicopter that dropped blocks, and could go down underneath the platforms and suicide itself to take down A LOT of platforms with its rotor blades. Maybe this could happen every 15th round?

You hear that, Stebbzor? You make the server look bad! Shame on you!

I didnt say the mapper makes it look bad, I said the map makes the server and the mapper look bad. I'm not sure of stebbz's mapping skills, (I have none of my own) but it could definetly use a rework.

Hahahaha I laughed out loud.

But yea Grassy was the first map, and it used to be much easier back then. It was done very quickly and I never updated it. But I guess it could be fixed up a bit.

This is the one map on slope which i refuse to play for that sole reason , it should either slow all or slow in like set times , not 1 person has to die so 1 person can get an ok time(or complete it)

I second all of Nivendo's points. :) I have some programming/mapping work under my belt, so if you would like any help feel free to ask.

I like how this post was written 4 or 5 months ago. :3 I tend to only look at recently posted threads so as not to necro when joining new forums, but these suggestions are so good I thought I'd post anyway.
