MoronYard Discussion / Community Project: Item Economy and Prices
« on: July 14, 2012, 04:51:08 PM »
Something the community desperately needs, and I unfortunately cannot provide by myself, is a complete list of prices and values for each and every item in the game.

As most of you know, the cash values of items are hardly an accurate representation of what the items is really worth. Furthermore, some items don't even have a cash value since they aren't sold in the shop. Lastly, a lot of people don't want to trade their valuable items for cash, which is understandable.
Needless to say, we need to come up with a different currency that people are more likely to accept in trades and that represents the value of items more accurately.

What comes to mind? Keys.

The value of a key has changed a lot since the economy first started but it has also been pretty stable for the last couple of months.
I suggest we compile a list of all items (see this page) with their respective value in number of keys.

Remember that this is a community project and only through your input can we make this as accurate as possible. Suggest the prices in this thread and we will be able to expand the list of prices (in the next post).

Here are a few pointers:
 • Items that are worth less than a key should also receive a cash value (this applies to fragments, the catalyst, crates (?), etc...). Example: Key Fragment - 0.33 Keys - x Cash
 • Feel free to debate the prices in this thread; if somebody suggests that a bucket hat should go for 8 keys, tell them it should be closer to a key fragment. Only through debate can we get this list as complete as possible.

So what do we need to do first?

We have to agree on an average cash value of a key. I have prepared a thread for this. Click here! After the cash value is set we can start working on the other items.

What if item prices / key value changes?

Only the most expensive items will be affected by key value fluctuations. Nevertheless, this thread is a continuous effort and changes can be made.

Why even make this list?

It should be used as a reference for everybody that plays on our severs and needs to know that their items are worth. I have seen too often that a player has either been ripped off for not knowing the real value of his items, or has made a very low-value offer on a high-value item.

Moderator applications

Yes, it is time again. This is a rather uncommon event so make sure you are prepared. For the next few days, you will be able to post your application in the appropriate forum. Before you do, make sure you read this thread though. We are looking for 3-4 new moderators to help us out with the work that needs to be done on the forums, wiki, steam group and on the game servers. If you think you're up for the task, feel free to post your application.

PS: Read the linked above before posting anything.

News & Announcements / Update time, again!
« on: June 29, 2012, 05:20:38 PM »
A few things have changed over the last few days and lots of minor patches were applied. The server should be stable enough now, so I'll quickly list a summary of what has been added / changed:

 • Added several new community items: Stack of Hats, Boombox, Mad Eye, Scattergun, Adventurer's Pack, Warrior's Shield, Sentry Hat and The Quickfix.
 • Added a new magic property: Open Sockets. Items with open sockets can inherit magic properties from the items that are inserted into these sockets (for now, only Jewels). Items with sockets can be found in crates, chests, gifts or even randomly. They can have up to 3 sockets.
 • Added a new item type: Jewels. These items always have at least 1 magic attribute. They can be inserted into items with the "Open Sockets" magic attribute. Doing so will remove the Jewel and add its attributes to the item. Jewels can be found in every crate and can be crafted together to create a new random jewel.
 • Disabled inventory sorting; it might return in the future but for now it has been removed to reduce amount of database queries being sent in a session.
 • Fixed FPS issues caused by material cache being faulty.
 • Optimized profile saving and reduced general amount of queries used.
 • Switched over to transaction-based queries for inventory saving.
 • Lots of other minor fixes.

 •

 •

A big thanks to Alexandra Galloway, Death the Wolf, Real13 and Weinster for creating the community items!

I'd like to remind people about potential exploits on Smash and their consequences:

If you are caught in an area where you cannot be hit by boxes or are generally not supposed to be (ie: bridge on Canal), you will be banned. Don't even attempt to get to these spots, as excuses such as "I didn't know I couldn't be there" or "I was just trying to see if it was possible" will not be tolerated. You have been warned.

News & Announcements / Major update
« on: June 08, 2012, 05:26:34 PM »
The big update is finally here. A quick overview of the changes and additions:

 • Goldbar Madness-Event has been started! For every 2 goldbars you purchase, you get 1 goldbar for free! (Buy 4 - get 6, buy 8 - get 12!). Note: You will not get 3 goldbars from the Diamond VIP membership. Only gold bar purchases are affected. This event lasts from now until Monday morning!
 • During the event, the rare and painted drop rates have been increased significantly.
 • Added the attribute system for wearable items: All hats, auras and body attachments can now have prefixes and suffixes which will give them special bonuses. Currently there are 11 different attributes and there are more to come.
 • Added Relics: These special items are unique and have several predefined attributes. They can also be painted or have an effect attached to them.
 • Added 2 new Smash Tools: Force Staff and Winged Boots. These can be used instead of mines.
 • Added a Chest of Relics: This chest will produce one random relic, which can be rare or painted as well.
 • Added the Bundle of Smash Tools: Contains both the Winged Boots and the Force Staff.
 • All items found prior to this update will receive the vintage subquality. This will make all the existing items more valuable.
 • A lot of minor bugfixes and optimizations.

 •

A big thanks to all the community members who helped me out with the attributes and relic suggestions!

All servers have been updated. Please report any problems in this thread.

MoronYard Discussion / Unique Item Suggestions [IMPORTANT]
« on: June 03, 2012, 07:47:13 PM »
I am almost done with the big item update and I now need community input to create unique items: With the new update I will be introducing another type of items known as Relics. These items have a unique name and 3 or more magical attributes. Here is an example of a Max Head relic:

The attributes on this item can vary slightly each time it drops. Here are the attributes with their ranges:

Code: [Select]
+(5 - 15) Increased Movespeed
+(5 - 10) Extra Cash Earned
+(5 - 20) Better Chance of Getting Painted Item

Now, this is where your creativity comes in: I now need suggestions for relics (hats, auras and attachments). Any item should have 3-5 attributes and should be slightly balanced. Remember that any of the attributes can also be negative if you chose so.

Example:
Code: [Select]
+(5 - 25) Extra Cash Earned
-(10 - 30) Maximum Health

This would be an acceptable compromise for an item (losing max HP for high cash earned).

Here is the list of attributes you can use:

Code: [Select]
-- (+/-)% Chance to find magic items
-- (+/-)% Extra Cash Earned
-- (+/-)% Chance to find rare items
-- (+/-) Extra Items Per Day
-- (+/-)% More Votes
-- (+/-) Maximum Health
-- (+/-)% Chance to find painted items
-- (+/-)% Higher Key Drop rate
-- (+/-)% Higher Fragment Drop rate
-- (+/-) Increased Movespeed
-- (+/-) Health regenerated / second

Please try to come up with an original name for the item(s) as well. A good example would be a reference to a movie, book or character (any well-known media figure is fine).

Use the following template to post your suggestions (multiple suggestions per post allowed):

Code: [Select]
Relic Name: Bugs Bunny's Scalp
Item Name: Max's Head
Attributes:
[li]+(5 - 15) Increased Movespeed[/li]
[li]+(5 - 10) Extra Cash Earned[/li]
[li]+(5 - 20) Better Chance of Getting Painted Item[/li]
All submissions that get accepted will be greatly rewarded. Now, let's get to work!

Also, make sure you read the notes in this post.

News & Announcements / Attributes for items
« on: May 27, 2012, 03:51:08 PM »
I am currently working on extending the item system by adding attributes. These work exactly the same way as the affixes on Dodgeball weapons do. When the item is equipped, the bonus attributes are active and will be applied. Any hat, aura or attachment can have attributes (even rare, legendary or special items).

Examples:

Furthermore, all other items found prior to the introduction of this new system will receive the vintage subquality.

Example:

Currently, the following attributes are planned: (affixes)

Code: [Select]
1-5, "Opportune", "+%d%% Better Chance of Getting Magic Item"
6-10, "Promising", "+%d%% Better Chance of Getting Magic Item"
11-15, "Blessed", "+%d%% Better Chance of Getting Magic Item"
16-20, "Lucky", "+%d%% Better Chance of Getting Magic Item"
21-25, "Golden", "+%d%% Better Chance of Getting Magic Item"

1-5, "Favorable", "+%d%% Extra Gold Earned"
6-10, "Gaining", "+%d%% Extra Gold Earned"
11-15, "Prosperious", "+%d%% Extra Gold Earned"
16-20, "Wealthy", "+%d%% Extra Gold Earned"
21-25, "Loaded", "+%d%% Extra Gold Earned"

-> +%d Extra Items per Day
-> +%d%% Chance of Getting Rare Item

This list is far from complete though!

Feel free to suggest others (as long as they are not completely unbalanced).

News & Announcements / TeamSpeak Server Changes
« on: May 19, 2012, 02:05:22 PM »
Since a lot of people thought it would be a great idea to mic-spam in our TS server, I have set up a server password. The password is the name of the gamemode on our 1st server (the one with all the platforms and mines). All characters are lowercase.

Note: If you do think you need to act like an idiot on the TS server, expect to get punished on the game servers as well.

Event time! Only today (Sunday, until I wake up tomorrow morning...) we have some special features and offers for our members:

 • Activated Paint Madness!: All items (that can be painted) that you unbox from crates or chests (yes, even Mysterious Chests and Rare Chests) will be painted! (This might be a good time to get a painted Katana...)
 • For every 2 goldbars you purchase, you get 1 goldbar for free! (Buy 4 - get 6, buy 8 - get 12!). Note: You will not get 3 goldbars from the Diamond VIP membership. Only gold bar purchases are affected.
 • The chance to get a rare item has been significantly increased!
 • Event mode is enabled; you get 30% more cash for winning / getting awards / killing people / ...

News & Announcements / Update time!
« on: May 05, 2012, 06:21:42 PM »
Here comes another batch of fixes and a few new items / features:

 • Added new item type: Crates. They behave exactly the same as regular chests did, except they contain different items. Every crate contains 5-6 hats, 1-2 body attachments, 1-2 weapons and 0-2 auras.
 • Stopped all existing regular chests from dropping and removed all crafting recipes to create regular chests: This pretty much means that the supply of old Series 1 - 5 chests will slowly start to decline. Bundle of chests will still be available! Rare chests also behave the same way they used to.
 • Added recipe to re-roll Smash Weapons.
 • Added gift locations for map mg_smash_combine.
 • Added 4 new mines: Bleed, Healing, Drill & Puppet Mines.
 • Optimized all existing Smash mines.
 • Added sudden death mode on Smash: After a certain amount of time, drill mines will start appearing to collapse the platforms players are standing on and speed up the round. This should help avoid long and boring rounds on certain maps.
 • Added new display messages for mines.
 • Added individual map properties for each Smash map.
 • Community items now have their own item quality; they are no longer legendary quality.
 • Changed magic dust creation recipe from 2 to 3 dust.
 • Changed default amount of rounds before voting on Smash maps from 20 to 15.
 • Fixed recipe list not being ordered.
 • Fixed one player name being stuck behind a button on the invite screen.
 • Fixed players being able to unbox or create an item with "Cigarette Smoke" particle effect.
 • Fixed Mysterious Chests A not being untradable after being crafted by VIP members.

 •

News & Announcements / Important announcement concerning exploits
« on: April 29, 2012, 06:32:43 PM »
With the new Smash update, there are some exploits that are possible involving repulsion mines and areas that are out of reach of the boxes.

If you are caught in one of these areas, you will be banned for 2 days. VIP members are not excluded from this as it is considered exploiting.

I will fix this as soon as possible (in the next couple of hours). Until then, do not try to exploit these glitches or you will get banned.

You have been warned.

Smash / Suggest a Smash Weapon / Tool!
« on: April 29, 2012, 06:25:45 PM »
Since we have the loadout system for Smash now, we can add several new weapons and tools.
Post your (reasonable) ideas for weapons or tools in here.

Mines are the easiest and fastest for me to implement but I am open to any other suggestions.

PS: Please don't suggest anything that is overpowered or could potentially enable exploits (nocliping...).

News & Announcements / Patch for Smash Update
« on: April 29, 2012, 04:33:17 PM »
Fixed a few bugs and adjusted the mines a bit. Here's what changed in this update:

 • Added kill assists from mines: Whenever somebody dies while under the effect of one of your mines, you get credit for the kill.
 • The system is now tracking the kills mentioned above.
 • Fixed a bug with item drop system where mines with affixes could spawn.
 • Adjusted ammo and delays for all mines.
 • Mines now immediately cloak when placed. This should make placing effective traps a lot easier. The mine still needs to arm before being able to be triggered.
 • Adjusted visual effects from flashbang mine to decay equally fast on all clients (FPS).
 • Flashbang mines can no longer be triggered by the owner of the mine.
 • Increased the radius of mines by 4 units in each dimension.
 • The applied force of repulsion mines is a lot less predictable now.
 • The Smash scoreboard now properly separates dead and alive players and sorts by amount of kills.

Enjoy.
