Something the community desperately needs, and I unfortunately cannot provide by myself, is a complete list of prices and values for each and every item in the game.

As most of you know, the cash values of items are hardly an accurate representation of what the items is really worth. Furthermore, some items don't even have a cash value since they aren't sold in the shop. Lastly, a lot of people don't want to trade their valuable items for cash, which is understandable.
Needless to say, we need to come up with a different currency that people are more likely to accept in trades and that represents the value of items more accurately.

What comes to mind? Keys.

The value of a key has changed a lot since the economy first started but it has also been pretty stable for the last couple of months.
I suggest we compile a list of all items (see this page) with their respective value in number of keys.

Remember that this is a community project and only through your input can we make this as accurate as possible. Suggest the prices in this thread and we will be able to expand the list of prices (in the next post).

Here are a few pointers:
  • Items that are worth less than a key should also receive a cash value (this applies to fragments, the catalyst, crates (?), etc...). Example: Key Fragment - 0.33 Keys - x Cash
  • Feel free to debate the prices in this thread; if somebody suggests that a bucket hat should go for 8 keys, tell them it should be closer to a key fragment. Only through debate can we get this list as complete as possible.

So what do we need to do first?

We have to agree on an average cash value of a key. I have prepared a thread for this. Click here! After the cash value is set we can start working on the other items.

What if item prices / key value changes?

Only the most expensive items will be affected by key value fluctuations. Nevertheless, this thread is a continuous effort and changes can be made.

Why even make this list?

It should be used as a reference for everybody that plays on our severs and needs to know that their items are worth. I have seen too often that a player has either been ripped off for not knowing the real value of his items, or has made a very low-value offer on a high-value item.

In all honesty, I don't really know what you are asking, but if you are looking for general prices of items, then it looks something like this...

Chest Fragments (A, B, C, D) ~ 10k each
Chests (NOT CRATES) ~ 100k each
Key Fragments ~ 250k
Keys ~ 800k

The problem the server has is that people are willing to pay over the odds for some items which then causes the price to rise. If a new player see's someone buy a key for 1 million, then the new player also wants to get 1 million for there key which causes tension.

And that is why we make the list. If we can refer to an official list, nobody will get away with asking 1 million for a key.

You don't understand. Prices should (also) be in keys. That is the point of setting the value of a key.

The trouble with setting prices in keys, is that most items are worthless compared to keys. As said before, keys are around 800k, if you look at the list posted by Sweet, hardly any other items are worth anywhere near as much.

Thats why we would use key frags, but i would also have to agree. If you were to look att he tf2 economy they have this: scrap< rec< ref< key< bills< budsWhat we have in comparison is this Key Frag < Key < rare item

In truth though the in-game cash we all have is used on key frags, keys, and other low price items. Anything of actual worth we would not use cash except as a "buffer" to fill in the gap of your item offering and the thing you are buying. If we do pay in all cash we end up dishing out 8m and up.

With all that said I think the economy cant been dependent on keys and key frags alone we would need something more like this: 200k-500k < Key Frags < Keys < Rare Item

The thing about this is that keys and key frags are not valued to us as the price we buy/sell them, when we are buying an item we would rather pay in money over keys, because keys have the second use to open things. We like to have that option of uncrating, and money has only the use of buying things.

on another note:
lockpick- 450k

Lockpicks are almost always prices as 1.5 key frags, give or take 50k.

(Sorry if this is very badly written, im a terrible writer. Mostly my issues lie with organization)

This is a very good point and I intend to change the actual use of cash. As of right now, we have a lot of people sitting on their money with nothing to spend it on. That will change; there will be a second hand shop which will offer powerful items (which you would normally not be able to buy), but with an insane price tag.

That sounds like a nice idea, and maybe you can be able to buy an item that adds an open socket to normal items (ex. Socket tool) But keep in mind this will not add sockets to rares to keep the price of socketed rares high. And it will not add a socket if the item already has 1 or more sockets.
Ya

Guess I should see if I can come up with anything :s

Rather than pricing it in keys, I have done it with fragments. This is because not all items are worth as much as a key.

With the assistance of Lyna and several members in the community, I have managed to put together a price list. It can be found by going to the link below.
