The Reversal mine was one of the first mines, added in the smash update along with the smash map Combine (Smash). When tripped, the victim's controls are flipped for 3 to 5 seconds, as in the left movement key moves the player right, etc. This sudden confusion can often cause players to stumble over the edge in a tight spot, or walk into other mines.

A particularly lethal combination occasionally occurs when a player steps on a reversal mine and stumbles onto Repulsion Mines, throwing them into the air without proper control. Reversal mines have 2 ammunition, take 6.5 seconds to arm and have a delay of 4.5 seconds.
